Implementing DevOps in a small organization or single department is one thing. Applying these ideas in a large organization takes a lot more effort! At Belk, we’ve been on a 2- to 3-year journey to improve the software development life cycle. Our “war stories” will provide the backdrop for key lessons learned along the way. By structuring teams differently, and optimizing how they work, the same number of people accomplish far more together. Optimizing repetitive tasks frees people so they can focus on the really interesting and creative stuff. I will also show how silos profoundly influence system architecture and how to address that. Lastly, the session will describe a pattern for introducing organizational change, taking these practices beyond a small grass roots effort.
